17th March – St.Patrick’s Day

One week later it was Saint Patrick’s Day.

You know, Irish people go crazy during this day... unfortunately it was also the last day of the Six Nations rugby competition in Europe and the schedule proposed an interesting Ireland-Italy match. Right on St.Patrick’s Day, and in Australia maybe it was even worse since the match started around midnight in the East Coast, which means that most of the people would have been absolutely drunk for that time! Furthermore Ireland was still competing against France to get the first place in the tournament, so the match got even a more important meaning for them.

The night began with the Green Day Tribute offered by the same band I’ve already seen in January, and this time I have got a proper picture for those who don’t believe me. Cool stuff this time again.

After the concert it was time for the rugby match to start. I was there with Australians, Germans and Italians. Unfortunately Simona and Silvia left after the concert to go to another place with their two Aussie housemates (calling us soon after because they realised they didn’t take the best decision!) so probably the only two Italians in Scruffy Murphy’s (Irish pub!) were me and Federica. Surrounded by dozens (if not hundreds) of green-coloured Irish people. Even worse, because of her time spent in Ireland, Federica was supporting the green squad, leaving me alone for the Italian blue colours. It was really though to show my happyness everytime Italy scored a point and my disappointment everytime the Irish were making a try or a conversion, but I survived that night, probably because from the second half Ireland started to push hardly and trashed Italy. I admit, they were better than us, no excuses, and it was fair that on St.Patrick’s they could celebrate a victory. But unluckily for them, France won against Scotland scoring in the last minutes the points that gave them the Six Nations trophy for points-difference.

Some internationals were misteriously missing, I discovered some days later that they went with UTS to a learn-how-to-surf weekend. Not good knowing it after it happened, anyway not even so bad, I wouldn’t have been able to join them because on Monday 19th my first assignment was due: a clear sign that "true" University has really started.

27th January - Green Day Tribute

After a day strolling around Sydney center exploring the area where me and Federica will hopefully find soon a place, at dinner time my two Italian friends met an English and a Norwegian girl from the hostel, and learnt that the same night a Green Day Tribute would have taken place in Scruffy Murphy's pub just round a corner in George Street.
Federica was too tired to come with us after a walking day, but I wanted to enjoy Green Day music so decided to go (together with Sebastiano, who maybe would have preferred a club called "Chinese Laundry" and suggested us by some Italians(again!) we met in Tamarama.

After a show where the band played its own songs plus a couple of covers, the three young guys on the stage started their Green Day Tribute (err... let's say they've played "Bullet In A Bible"), which lasted more than a hour. They switched from popular songs (eg. Basket Case) to Green Day hits from their latest studio album.
It has been a really great night: some beers, good music and not only. I met an Italian guy who mostly likes the same music I prefer, got his number and an unofficial invitation for the next punk/rock parties in Sydney. Then he introduced his flatmates, a boy and a very nice girl from Sweden. The same day I finally unlocked my mobile and bought my Australian sim card... well done!In fact the same night, other than the number I told you, I also got the mobile number of the English girl who told my friends about the tribute. She is going to Melbourne soon and will be there in the next months: it will be good to see each other again when I'll visit the Victoria State capital.
This number has been really deserved 'cause I looked throughout the whole pub for her bag (which seemed to have been disappeared)... and has been really appreciated 'cause she's absolutely funny and, yes, gorgeous... unfortunately she has an Irish boyfriend in Europe! Furthermore -and it must be said- is one of the most easily "comprehensibile while speaking people" I've met here so far.
But anyway it wasn't the end: outside the place Sebastiano met an Irish girl from Cork and then introduced her to me: she will be in Sydney until at least the end of March and we can go out together with our friends because she gave me her e-mail address.
Good stuff... meeting all these people coming from everywhere in the world is really cool, everyone has his/her own story and you never finish to learn and hear new ones... I just hope I can meet all of them again... we'll see!
